Our Story
trekoa: to be happy
In 2020 our founder Jackson was speaking to a close friend, who had a son starting the Duke of Edinburgh. Knowing that Jackson was a passionate camper, he asked Jackson for advice about what gear he should buy for his son.
He explained how existing advice and checklists weren’t very helpful, and how much time he and his wife spent researching equipment, visiting outdoor stores, and trying to work out what were the lightest and best value options available.
And with that, Trekoa was born from this passion for the outdoors, and an obsession for helping others.
Today the Trekoa family employs a small but passionate team of individuals, who all live and breathe the outdoors and want to share their passion with you.
“Wongzy” Jackson Wong
Jackson is fortunate enough to lead an amazing team of friends and outdoor enthusiasts.
After watching an episode of Man vs Wild in 2013, with his confidence boosted by some cheap gear from Kmart and some canned soup, Jackson headed off into the Blue Mountains on his first remote camping adventure.
Since then, Jackson has fallen in love with nature. With thousands of hiking kms under his belt, Jackson has hiked across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. His highlight has been hiking to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) with his BFF ‘Pigz’.
“Pigz” aka Lenny
Starting out a tea drinking tech nerd, Lenny has found in recent years that tea and coffee certainly do mix!
With a short stint in the Australian Army reserves, 7 years on active duty in law enforcement and countless number of hours out in the aussie bush, Lenny has realised the importance of having the right kit for the right conditions.
Lenny’s highlights include trekking the Himalayas with Wongzy, exploring South East Asia on foot and enjoying the solitude of a simple campfire with his compadres.
Andrew “Random” Chan
Today balances being an engineer, dad and husband. He hopes his son grows up and follows his passion, whatever that may be.
Andrew was an avid boulderer many years ago, transferring his passion for solving engineering problems to solving climbing problems. He is grateful to have climbimbed with many great friends at some amazing places including the Grampians and Rocklands.
Andrew and “Wongzy” studied engineering together where they spent many late nights solving the world’s most complex engineering problems, or so they thought.
